Taekwondo essay:

I started Taekwondo when I was in fourth grade. At school that year we had a big Valentine’s Day card exchange where everybody brought cards for everybody else. I received a valentine from one of my friends that was advertising one free Taekwondo lesson. When I got home I told my family about the free lesson and later that week I went to Westlake Taekwondo Plus for the first time. After the lesson Mr. McCulloch asked what I liked most about the class and naturally I said “kicking stuff”. Mr. McCulloch said he completely agreed with me.

One day in class when I was a yellow belt Mr. McCulloch told us that most likely only one of us in that room was going to make it all the way to black belt. On that day I promised myself that I was going to be that person. Two and a half years later I made probationary 1st degree black belt. Four months later I went to testing to test for trainee instructor and I made it. Becoming a trainee was a great decision.

There is no one thing that I enjoy most about Taekwondo, I pretty much like every thing. At first I liked hitting stuff and sparring then I began to realize the artistic part of forms after watching black belts do their forms. Then I began looking at Taekwondo as art more than as a fighting technique. An extra perk for me is I have become a lot more physically fit since joining Taekwondo.

A good thing about Taekwondo is that as you go up in the ranks it keeps changing so you won’t get bored with it. You also meet lots of different, interesting people. I plan to be doing Taekwondo for a long time.
