Taekwondo essay:
In my life, there are two major places where I learn many important things: school and Tae-Kwon-Do. In school, I learn just about everything I need to know to grow up and be successful. But school only gives me the knowledge. To be a great person you must have knowledge along with character. My father and older brother were enrolled in a Karate facility and they persuaded me to try attending some classes. I soon started my Martial Arts journey, and immediately I noticed that I had become a whole new person. I received discipline and courage, as well as many Karate moves. I trained there, along with my father and brother, for about 1 and a half years, and throughout that time I enjoyed every class.
Unfortunately, the school closed down. I moved on to gymnastics for a few years while my brother got enrolled in Westlake Tae-Kwon-Do. I found out my brother really enjoyed Tae-Kwon-Do and after injuring myself in gymnastics, I decided to join Westlake Tae-Kwon-Do. As soon as I got into Westlake Tae-Kwon-Do, I knew that this was the best place for me. In here, we focused not only at improving our physical self, but also mental self. We practice all the tenants constantly, always trying to improve ourselves on each of them. In Westlake, everything was always challenging and exciting, and there were so many opportunities. I slowly started my journey towards a black belt, and through that journey I learned to really respect my family, especially my parents who constantly drove me, no matter what day or time it was.
Then I achieved the rank of Probationary 1st degree. On the same day, I looked back to the very beginning of my journey and I couldn’t believe everything that Westlake Tae-Kwon-Do had done for me. Now as I went about my normal life I have a huge respect for everyone around me, and my courtesy seems to please everyone I talk to. As I thought about my journey, I realized that it wasn’t only my family that helped me achieve the rank of black belt, because many of the students and instructors at Westlake helped me as well. I realized that I had another “family,” everyone at Westlake.
My journey had helped me accomplish things such as physical and mental development, becoming a friendly and likeable person, and receiving another family. Everything I received will be cherished and used for the rest of my life.
